A Tofino Elopement

Six years and three children later, we finally did it.
Mitch proposed to me on April 16, 2019, and up until this point our relationship had already been tested in many ways, mainly through navigating early parenthood together. Nothing could have prepared us for what 2020 had in store.
January 1st- a positive pregnancy test. Mid February- we find out it’s twins. Early March- the pandemic hits.
Delaying our wedding became the least of our worries and adapting to survival mode became the priority instead. Getting through this past year has been a blur, but has also allowed us to evolve into a more resilient couple. No matter how unpredictable the road has been, our unwavering love for one another has remained a tried and true constant worthy of celebration.
Tofino, BC is a magical place dear to our hearts that we often visit. We knew it would make the perfect spot to tie the knot.
I hope you enjoy the details of our day.
In the penthouse suite of Long Beach Lodge, my wedding day finally rolled in on July 23rd, 2021. I am fortunate enough to have one of my best friends Grace as my professional hair and makeup artist. She came over early to start the day with me and then mom and my beloved nanny Emma brought the kids to celebrate the final touches. We were so full of emotion and anticipation for everything ahead.
I am so proud of my three children and it was such a blessing to have had them as a part of the day. Mila’s flower crown, my bouquet, Mitch’s boutonniere and all our floral designs were hand-made by local designer Botanica and Bloom. We decided to do an intimate first look prior to the ceremony and read each other our personal vows there.
My bohemian-style wedding dress and veil was from The White Peony, custom-altered by local designer Lily Kennedy who was also able to create me a custom garter in a flash. It was fastened with sentimental pieces from each of my kids, my mom, grandma and even a guitar pick from Mitch.
A local musician beautifully accompanied the ceremony and cocktail hours to follow. The experience was so surreal. Our families and closest friends- many of whom traveled a good distance- finally had the opportunity to reunite or meet for the first time in this west coast paradise.
We had a private sandbar patio beautifully catered by the Lodge and a champagne toast immediately following the ceremony. The kids played together and enjoyed the day with us. It was such magical time to be with family and share joy after a hard year.
After charcuterie, champagne and mingling Mitch and I took off for our newlywed photos. Even though it was overcast it made for a beautiful white backdrop and a warm, yet breathable temperature to run around in all our layers of fabric.
It was the perfect romantic setting, and it brought back so many memories of all our years here together.
After all this time and everything we’ve endured, Mitch and I are still in love. Life can be so unpredictably difficult and sometimes you don’t see eye to eye with your partner. Sometimes you see so much of them that you forget how to appreciate everything you are and where it all began. When two people are meant to be, I truly believe that the secret to a long-lasting relationship is respect, communication and team work. It’s mindfully cherishing the other rather than getting complacent when things get comfortable. It’s working through uncertainty rather than running when things get challenging.
I feel so lucky to have found my person, and to now look forward to a life shared with three beautiful children.
