Four Looks for Fall

This season has many emerging trends-the sherpa hoodie, the return of leopard and snake prints, as well as quintessential 80’s pieces-and I’m loving all of them. While I like to implement on-trend items into my wardrobe, my primary focus is to invest in timeless pieces that are both versatile and confidence boosting. Instead of doing a proper spring cleaning, I waited until fall to finally go through my closet and sell a bunch of things on VarageSale-I highly recommend doing this on the app or something similar in your area if you haven’t already given it a shot. Take good photos of anything around the house you need to let go of, but that may also hold value to someone else and sell them at a reasonable price. I then take a look at my closet to decide which staples are missing or needing updating, and use the money from Varage towards shopping new essentials to help lessen the feeling of buyer’s remorse! Items to complete inspired looks:

  • A warm camel coat
  • A moto jacket
  • A black turtleneck dress
  • Over-the-knee boots
  • Feminine and retro sunnies
  • A price-sensible black patent purse until I’m ready to invest in the one I want.

Then combine your new investments with older ones in an effort to refine your “capsule wardrobe” (a term I’m just becoming familiar with). Essentially, a collection of items that don’t go out of a style and can be augmented with seasonal pieces. While I could go on about many outfits I love to rock, here are four favourite looks for fall fashion.

1. Turtleneck dress | Over-The-Knee Boots | Camel Jacket

You can never go wrong with a classic camel coat. This season Aritzia swayed me again with their classic Stedman jacket which literally had me drooling. I’m obsessed with how soft the material is and its versatility in completing many looks-be it a turtleneck dress or jeans with Chucks. It’s the perfect transitional piece to wear lightly in fall and bundle up in layers for winter. As for boots I’m a sucker for suede and have one pair of flat Zara boots that have lasted me years (shown later below) as well as the heeled pair of Steve Madden’s shown above.

2.   A wool-knit sweater | black skinny jeans | vinyl black booties | retro Ray-Bans

This knit sweater is another Aritzia favourite from last year, and it still holds its novelty now. I can’t say that about a lot of other brands so I don’t mind paying the price point. I love to pair black skinny jeans with loose fitting tops or comfy fall sweaters, and then dress up with booties or down with a pair of sneakers. I ordered these booties because I liked the vinyl finish for a change and how they pair great with skinnies or a dress.

3.  Moto Jacket  |  High waisted jeans  | Suede flat boots

My favourite outfit for a more casual day is always a quality pair of high waisted skinny jeans with a bodysuit. On a day where I’ll be running errands and doing a lot of walking I’ll wear a pair of flat suede over the knee boots with it. Throwing on a moto jacket instantly changes the way I feel to something more edgy and sophisticated. I love that certain pieces of clothing have the ability to do that, so this moto jacket was an instant sell for me at the right price point.

4.  All black everything

Nothing original here but all black is my go-to at least once a week. There are ways to show your individuality in all black, though, and I like to stay true to my love of skinnies, boots and turtlenecks and then top with a moto and feminine pair of sunglasses. All black is slimming, flattering, and timeless all year round. Great for moms with stain-prone kiddos running around the house too!

As always, thanks for following along and subscribing to the blog.

Love,

Momma Mills
