The holidays are upon us and somewhere between the events, the social gatherings and the Christmas spirit in the air, we want to look and feel our best. At Heartwood & Co, they understand the importance of that desire- and not just for the holidays, but all year round. Nestled in the heart of downtown Victoria, Heartwood offers a unique collective of professional beauty services including hair, makeup, eyelash extensions, lash lifts, and nail esthetics. It’s also an academy for volume and classic eyelash extension training which gives you an understanding of how close (and almost family-like) the management is with their staff. Further, Heartwood is a bake house offering wholesome cookies upon arrival or exquisite cakes for special order, and it’s a distinguishing rental space for anything requiring a kitchen, workshop or event.

What I love most though, is how competent and professional each of Heartwood’s people are. I trust that whenever I come in for a service I’ll leave feeling and looking better than when I walked in and without breaking the bank. Living the west coast lifestyle can leave us feeling constantly on a budget, but it’s important to remember that sometimes just a small service- be it soft and natural or glowing and glam- can go a long way towards giving us the boost of confidence we deserve. I usually get my hair coloured every few months varying between more blonde or more brunette with either a balayage service or toner, and for special events I like to book in for glam makeup with lashes. I used to get monthly lash lifts, which I find to be an underrated fantastic service to brighten your eyes with the lift of one’s own natural lashes, but I’ve taken a break on it for now. I’m also tempted to get back into classic lash extensions again. Both of these services are so complimentary and convenient, especially when you have kids!

In this video, I’m returning to Heartwood without makeup or my hair done and naturally feeling the desire to freshen up my look for an event. I hadn’t coloured my hair for months, so decided to glam it up with just a partial balayage and makeup service. As you can see, just a few hours in the salon can drastically freshen up a look which is why I make frequent “self-love” visits to my Heartwood haven, but most importantly, it’s the way it makes me feel on the inside that keeps me coming back! Similar beauty maintenance services include sun-kissed highlights, blowouts, structured cuts and “just the eyes” makeup application. These types of services can make a world of a difference and are quick, easy and budget-friendly.
