Is it Mental Health or is it Motherhood?

Are They One and the Same?

Motherhood is a journey that constantly oscillates between feeling completely overwhelmed and overwhelmingly complete. It’s a unique space where irritation and gratitude coexist, where we can feel both lost in our identity and found in the eyes of our children. It's a paradox of yearning for freedom while being filled to the brim with fulfillment.

We often look to medications and remedies to "fix" us, hoping to ride out the waves of our emotional turmoil and meet our realities from a different angle. But the truth is, we don’t need to be fixed. Yes, sometimes it helps to feel less or more, but what we truly need is to reach out, hold a hand, and be heard. We need support and breaks, and we need a community that shares the truths of motherhood in unapologetic solidarity.

Motherhood can be all too much sometimes. The expectations to do it all, forget about ourselves, and maintain a smile are heavy burdens. The guilt gnaws at us when we aren’t managing well, and our heads spin in a daily dance of joy and exhaustion.

Maybe it just is what it is. Maybe it’s time the world understands that motherhood is synonymous with both good and poor mental health. It’s the most important and tumultuous role of our lifetimes to raise children, and naturally, our emotional and psychological well-being should fluctuate with the evolution of it all too.
