My Invisalign journey

Dr. Peter Duncan has practiced orthodontics in Victoria for over 25 years. His passion for transforming smiles alongside his friendly and informative staff is why I decided to start Invisalign for a second time. My first experience using clear aligners was almost 10 years ago. Over time, the alignment of my bite shifted and Dr. Duncan recommended the accelerated treatment plan for long-term correction. From an aesthetic standpoint I questioned if treatment was necessary, but what I learned through the consultation process was that bite functionality and teeth longevity can be far more important and often overlooked. Needless to say, Invisalign is proven to straighten crooked and crowded teeth in as little as 4 months. When used correctly, the clear aligner trays can transform your confidence to share a beautiful smile that will never go out of style.

Whatever it is you may be looking to correct about your teeth, the best thing to do if curious about Invisalign is to book a consultation. Every step of the process was professional, thorough, and made me feel supported in finding the best solution unique to my alignment and bite.

Unlike the goopy clay-like mold that was used in the past, impressions of teeth and gums are now created using advanced computer technology and a specialized camera. I couldn’t believe when the simulated 3D visual of my teeth was uploaded to the screen in a matter of minutes. It was then that I understood where my bite was troubled. Dr. Duncan relates leaving an improperly aligned bite to “grinding the gears” of your teeth, in that it’s breaking down surface enamel and eventually further problems. I was shown the digitalized transformation of my teeth using Invisalign, and I left feeling completely re-inspired by the updated and expedited process.

Nowadays the Invisalign process is much faster and more efficient thanks to a little vibration device called Propel. Biting on this portable device just 5 minutes a day expedites the process and compliments the orthodontic treatment. It works by delivering gentle vibrations to the aligner trays so that they fit properly and stay on track. As a result, they have the ability to be changed more frequently and deliver a faster course of treatment.

Another educational takeaway was the importance of getting children in to see an orthodontist as early as 7 years old. Getting kids familiar with the doctor and staff at preventative check ups is important because if something does come up, further issues can be avoided the earlier they are caught. If not brought in early enough, their little mouths can get crowded and often times teeth need to be removed in order to make room. While kids are still growing up their teeth are more malleable so it’s best to keep early preventative measures top of mind!

While there is a low-priced alternative available (and for the right candidate this can be a cost-effective option) the reality for the majority of us is, the investment of something as precise and personalized as teeth realignment is not something you want to compromise on with a do-it-yourself alternative. Transforming a smile is such an individualized treatment, and something worth investing in with a trained professional to understand the uniqueness of your bite and be present throughout your journey to oversee the process.
