Twin Toddlers Bedroom Makeover: Why Custom Drapery?

Bedroom for the twin todlers

So many of you have been following our toddler bed sleep saga, so I wanted to share a blog post on how we’ve made the transition a more tolerable one. Trading cribs for twin beds took up a fair amount of space in the room. We had to test out several configurations until we got it just right. Once they realized they could escape however, we had our work cut out for us in establishing boundaries and routine. Other than hiring a certified sleep trainer, one of the best ways to get through this transition is to create an ideal sleep environment. It’s so important to ensure a dark, predictable room for bedtime. We decided that the best thing for their large bedroom windows would be investing in custom, high quality drapes. Check out the before below!

There is a science-backed correlation behind light and sleep. I know now from experience that blackout blinds offer a number of benefits to ease the challenging toddler bed transition in the right direction. Controlled darkness can increase your little one’s production of melatonin, reduce external stimuli, and contribute to a relaxing, consistent bedtime routine.

Q Design was referred to me as a great family-owned, Canadian-local option for custom drapes. Once I had a look at some examples of their work in Jillian Harris’s home, I was immediately sold. The concept of ordering custom can feel daunting at first, but Q Design breaks the process down in a step-by-step format and offers free design support as well!

My husband had no trouble at all following the step-by-step directions provided. If you feel you need it though, it’s always better to hire a professional installer with high-quality, heavy duty drapery like this. I helped with the finishing touches! 🙂

What I love most about Q Design is that they offer fully lined drapes in your choice of cotton or blackout. We selected the Soho Velvet Terra blackout drapes with a request to add some fun Pom Poms in the colour Whipped Cream. The twins LOVE these drapes and often play hide and go seek behind them. They are a durable, high-quality investment that will last a lifetime.

Custom window coverings make such a difference in that they fit to perfection and elongate a space in such a beautiful way. One of my favourite elements of the space is the hardware that came with it in Satin Brass. We had such a hard time finding quality hardware to fit this space so I was so pleased to know Q design could offer this as well. It adds so much character to the room paired with the bold drapes. The blackout element has made SUCH a difference in both light and sound control.

If you’re feeling inspired to dive into the process of going custom, I would highly encourage getting started with the Q Design process. They truly put so much effort and heart into perfect drapery, shades, bench covers and pillows.

I can’t wait for some of you to experience the difference!
