Will you be having dessert? Save room at Boom + Batten

Chilled rhubarb + strawberry consommé
At Victoria’s new and very popular Boom + Batten, you’ll find a west-coast inspired cuisine garnished and infused with seasonal enhancements that are sure to take your tastebuds to cloud 9. The delights of their food menu are only the beginning of the experience though, as this waterfront restaurant is best known for its distinguishing variety of dessert and pastry options found both in the restaurant and café. Boom + Batten’s desserts are created using as many local and seasonal ingredients as possible, which means the options are exclusive and will be changing often in the summer.
Chocolate mousse
Some items however, like their signature dark chocolate dessert featured above will be a constant on the menu. It consists of a crunchy chocolate hazelnut base, a malt caramel ganache centre and a dark chocolate mousse. It is then sprayed with a dark chocolate “paint” and served with salted chocolate crumble and malt ice cream. Remember to always save room for a taste of it!
Fromage Frais Mousse
Baked Yougurt
The Baked Yogurt has the tanginess of yogurt with the texture of cream brûlée. It’s topped with oranges, house-made granola and fennel pollen. Once you give it a taste you will most certainly have a new and unconventional favourite on your hands!
The Boom + Batten café is an incredible extension of the harbourfront restaurant space. It offers a more casual setting and meeting place for enjoying premium barista beverages and an array of freshly baked pastries created by talented pastry chef Dominique Laurencelle. The pastry items are a collection of her favourite recipes, many of which are inherited by her family and upbringing which gives them their wholesome and decadent flavours.
Jam Busters
On the happy hour menu, Jam Busters are a heavenly highlight made with Dominique’s grandmothers’ recipe- a yeast dough with a touch of mashed potatoes that is filled with house-made jam and coated with cinnamon sugar. YUM
The treats carry on in the café with flaky light scones, a “Bee sting” German cake, the carrot cake with real cream cheese frosting, and the blueberry oatmeal muffins with a crunchy sugar topping. (My personal favourite!) Other Boom-tastic items are the chocolate Boom cake, Boom cookie and a beautiful selection of macarons with vibrate colours and dazzling flavours.
Can’t decide? Try the shared dessert plate for a selection of all the favourite classics!
Every day from 4-5pm, the cafe offers a bake sale where select items are 50% off! This is an opportunity that your senses will not want to miss out on, so make sure to check it out as soon as you can!
As always, thanks for following along on my new and exciting FOOD tab, and be sure to let Boom + Batten know I sent you when you’re able to pay them a visit.
Love, Momma Mills
